Your 100 Day Prayer: Day 86 – Where Our Help Comes From

hills

I lift up my eyes to the hills–where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip–he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you–the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm–he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
-Psalm 121

Have you ever experienced a serious illness and your parent watched over you all night, or you arrived home past the curfew your parents had given you and found one or both wide awake? After the crisis was over, everyone did sleep. However our Heavenly Father neither slumbers nor sleeps and aren’t we grateful?!

As Dr. Snyder puts it, “The security and sense of safety and well-being that come from the all-protective, superhuman guardian who never dozes or sleeps are the greatest things that could ever be on this earth.”

He continues: “…The person who fully understands the physical and spiritual perils of this life, yet rests in the confidence that all is (and will be) well, is the one who sees life through the lenses of the psalmist. Our help comes from the Maker of heaven and earth. Here is the basis of our hope and the reason we can hold our head up high and go forward with confidence.”

TODAY’S PRAYER: Never stop praying that God will deliver you from our human temptation–namely, to think that we are somehow responsible for all the good things that come our way. Remember to thank God for his extravagant grace shown to you from your first day to your last.
