In this second episode of Theology Mixer Radio Host Jeremy Lundmark is joined by Carol Howell to discuss the sensitive topic of Dementia. Carol Howell is a regular contributor to TheologyMix.com and is the author of the Amazon #1 Best Seller “Let’s Talk Dementia: A Caregiver’s Guide.”
Carol and I delve into the details of what dementia actually is, and how it is distinct from Alzheimers and other diagnoses.
We also discuss how a family can diagnose dementia in a family member and how they can know when it’s time to move a family member into assisted living. Whether it be one of the san francisco senior community options, or one a little closer to home, there are plenty of choices out there to decide on, in all sorts of locations. The staff at these facilities might not be able to cure dementia, but they can certainly manage it and care for it. Thus, looking online for nursing home tips and finding the right one for the one you love becomes imperative. Nonetheless, apart from the social environment provided by an assisted living community, residents can take advantage of the prepared meals, group activities, etc. As such, seniors might move to places like Chelsea Senior Living centers (chelseaseniorliving.com/locations/new-york/rockville-centre/) where they could live comfortably in a homely environment.
I grill Carol on how pastors can take advantage of visitation opportunities and how lay-people, too, can be a blessing and an encouragement when they visit those suffering from various forms of dementia.
Carol gives some great tips for those spouses and children who are acting as caregivers and helps set us at ease as we wade into very unfamiliar waters.
