Your 100 Day Prayer: Day 27 – Hope, Now

present present

“How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you bestow in the sight of men on those who take refuge in you. In the shelter of your presence you hide them from the intrigues of men; in your dwelling you keep them safe from accusing tongues.”
-Psalm 31:19-20

I can remember, when things weren’t going as they should, my mother would start singing: “This world is not my home, I’m just a-passin’ through. My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue.” Dr. Snyder points out that we often focus on our future blessings and forget about the blessings we receive here and now.

“Whereas the psalmist had a somewhat fuzzy idea of our future after this life but a sharper picture of God’s present blessings, we, after the coming of Jesus, have a clear enough picture of the future but too often not a good idea of God’s intent for us in the present. We tend to put off his best for the distant future because we think of our present history as a sort of second-rate reality to be discarded at the end for the real thing—heaven and the kingdom of God.”

TODAY’S PRAYER: Are you tempted to think that you have to wait for the next life for God to bless you? Ask the Lord boldly for all your earthly needs. He loves to bless, protect, and vindicate his people.
