Your 100 Day Prayer: Day 71 – All Kinds of Problems

rejoice

In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. -1 Peter 1:6-7

Dr. Snyder asks us if we like to suffer grief in all kinds of trials and do we rejoice greatly when they come? And we say of course not, he agrees with “who would?” He explains that when Peter tells us to rejoice greatly, it isn’t about the suffering but because God is doing something in us by it.

Dr. Snyder continues: “Actually, there’s nothing quite like trouble to get us on our knees. What we need to know about our struggles is that they come to us for a purpose. They’re not just accidents that fall upon us without God’s knowledge or permission. They come by decree, by divine appointment, and with high purpose. Peter tells us that just as gold is refined by an exceedingly hot purifying process, so we are refined and outfitted for eternity by the things that happen to us here on earth.”

TODAY’S PRAYER: If you’re finding that the weight of carrying the burden of your need is too great, then be happy that you’ve gotten the point. Now ask God to teach you what it means for him to carry what you can’t.
