Daniel: How Can We Live Faithfully in Babylonian Times?

Our next session of The Munich Bible Study on Zoom is off to a great start! We began last Wednesday, September 11, at 7:00 p.m. with the book of Daniel. You can join us from anywhere in world via Zoom.

What wisdom and insights can we draw from Daniel regarding living in an increasingly hostile world? The study will teach us how we can live faithfully in Babylonian times.

Professor George Barna, a leading expert in church and worldview trends, states that we’ve reached a place of “Christian invisibility in our culture.” It’s entirely possible for us to have the gift of the Kingdom dwelling deeply in our hearts and still make no impact on our immediate surroundings or culture. For faith to combat non-faith or anti-faith, it has to be boldly put into practice for others to see. The Church and the world suffer when believers no longer seek to live for those outside the faith.

The primary themes of Daniel contain the blueprint for how God’s people can respond when overtaken by a worldview that opposes our faith. We must rediscover what our ancestors knew—the art (and power) of saying No.

Daniel teaches us that we can go far in cooperating with our hostile rulers, even manifesting love and great care for them, bearing witness to Jesus in this way, but he shows us that we must decide what we cannot and will not do. Eventually, we will come to a place where we must resist publicly and pay the price: “Whoever does not fall down and worship will immediately be thrown into a blazing furnace” (Daniel 3:6).
